Transportation to Ordu is easy. Wherever you are in Turkey, you can take a bus ticket to Ordu from there and in near future, there will be an airport in Ordu. However, i strongly advise you to go to Ordu by your car. (or you can rent a car after going to Turkey) The reason is Ordu is in Black Sea region which is well-known with its pure nature and clear sea. If you go to Ordu by your car, then you can take advantage of this nature and sea. Moreover, you may need to have a car to get somewhere out of the city center.
Here are places of Ordu for travel:
1. Boztepe
It is near to city center. In order to have a bird`s eye view of Ordu, you should get over there. There are two ways to get there. The first is by car. If you go over Ordu with your car or you rent a car after getting Ordu, you can use it to get Boztepe.
The second is by rope-ways. It starts off from city center and ends up at Boztepe. In order to take rope-ways, you have to buy a ticket costing just 6 lira for adults, 3 lira for students (it is Return ticket and one way ticket is not available). You can take your ticket from ticket office near to the starting point of rope-ways. Here is the photo of lift used in rope-ways:
It is one of the lifts taking passengers from city center to Boztepe |
Additionally, you can sit in a cafe at Boztepe and take a traditional drink of black sea area (tea) in front of Ordu. If you are a family with a child, when you take a sit at Boztepe, your child can make fun in game area near to your sit at Boztepe.
2. Walk Through Coast
After coming back to city center from Boztepe, you can walk throughout coast. Coastline looks more wonderful and attractive at night, so my advise is you should do this at the end of day. Throughout your walk, you can breath fresh air and if you do this before night you can swim in the sea. But, if you want to swim in blacksea, bear in mind that it is too dangerous, because, the sea can suddenly pull you toward its inside even though you know of swimming very well .
In Ordu, there are many highlands, but the most famous one is Persembe Yaylasi. Highlands in Ordu are far away from city center. If you want to get highland, you have to take a tour ticket or have a car. If you get Persembe Yaylasi by your car, the easiest way is to drive to Fatsa and in Fatsa, turn to Aybasti way for Persembe Yaylasi. From turn point to aybasti takes 1 hour (60 km) because throughout the way, there are many bends.
After getting over Persembe yaylasi, you take real oxygen:) and get satisfied with pure nature. There are many restaurants there and they sell organic produced lamb and beef meat. I strongly advise that any tourist paying a visit to Persembe yaylasi should eat lamb.
P.s.: You can walk around Persembe yaylasi but also take a tour by traditional Turkish horse-drawn vehicle.
4. Jason`s Church and Cape Jason
Coming back to Ordu from Persembe Yaylasi, you can spend time in Jason"s Church and Cape Jason. It is on the drive and near to Fatsa. It is the only church on coastline of black sea.
Jason`s Church is in cape jason. There is also a lighthouse in cape jason.
Here are some photos i took in Cape Jason:
5. Haznedaroglu Konagı
It is also on the drive from persembe yaylasi to Ordu. It is constructed in the Ottoman era and represents the tradition of the Ottoman time house. It is now used as a restaurant and museum.
Furthermore, there is a pier in front of Haznedaroglu Konagi. In the pier, you can enjoy with sea.
Enjoy your visit to Ordu.....
I've visited Crimea in 2006 or 2007, I think it was. It was fairly nice, (compared to most of the rest of Eastern Ukraine, which is not much better than a huge open-trench toilet) but still not especially impressive for any particular reason [other than the fact that Ukraine does have a rather high percentage of very attractive women.] There are no doubt, 100's, if not 1000's of places far nicer than this to see/visit.
